Currently I am working on a project I am calling "The Creek,"  the only name I have ever called the meandering, clay-infused series of swimming holes in Louisiana I would visit as a child and young adult. Officially named “Big Creek," this tributary of the Tangipahoa River, is also the locus of my family lore.  It is my source and the vehicle I am using, sometimes literally, sometimes symbolically, to explore the mythology passed down to me through stories told to me by my mother and grandmother, and since my mother's death, through troves of letters, documents and photographs she left behind.  I am not yet clear what shape this project will take - it is revealing itself to me as I work.
