Currently I am working on a project I am calling "The Creek," the only name I have ever called the meandering, red clay rivulet in Louisiana I would visit as a child and young adult. The creek, which is physically located outside of Amite, Louisiana, is also the locus of my family lore. It is my source and the vehicle I am using, sometimes literally, sometimes symbolically, to explore the mythology passed down to me through my mother and grandmother, and since my mother's death, through the troves of letters, documents and photographs she left behind. I am not yet clear what shape this project will take. The images below are a few of my working ideas.
